                                                      It's a Wonderful Life
(Take 2 hours out of your day and watch it right here!)

Okay, I know Christmas is a long ways away (unless you're counting backwards) but I just found out that the entire feature film It's a Wonderful Life (Frank Capra, 1946) is available for free on Google Video!  I urgently report this now because I'm not sure how long this classic piece of cinema will be up on the site.  According to Wikipedia--which is always completely factual *cough*--the distribution rights to this timeless treasure is currently owned by Paramount, a daughter company of Viacom, and they like to take their media off the web.  I'm not sure how all this legal copyright mumbo jumbo works but I definitely recommend this movie to anyone who's never seen it before.  It is wholesome, enjoyable, and sentimental fluff, made by the one man that does it best, Frank Capra.

So grab some popcorn (and maybe a few friends) and enjoy this heartwarming story of the life of Mr. George Bailey.  Get ready to experience It's a Wonderful Life!

I played a very impressive online version of Reversi called "3D Reversi."  I won easily on the easy difficulty level, so I tried playing the game on hard.  I wasn't doing so well, but I stuck it out till the end only to find out that "I loose!"  Poor-spelling CPs defeat me again...

Play it now!

I've gotta stop posting so many videos on here! My LiveJournal is turning into a YouTube gallery...
Sorry for my laziness, but I've got nothing to report. I just got done doing a load of Calculus II homework. (And that can be tiring at times.)
Here's one last (but probably not the last) entertaining clip from YouTube. It's some type of japanese training video.

Paper or air?

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
chip

Have you ever washed your hands in a public restroom and asked yourself, "Hmm, which is better: Paper towels or hand dryers?"

Ecologically, of course, the answer is hand dryers.  Not to mention, some of those paper varieties are the cheap brown kind; or in my case, the even cheaper and thinner, gray kind.  Gross!

But some people complain that hand dryers never get your hands completely dry and take too much time to use.

So... I present to you the proper steps for using a hand dryer:

1. Wash hands (or just get them wet).
2. Shake hands over sink to remove excess water. (Your hands are halfway dry already!)
3. Activate the hand dryer and quickly move on to Step 4.
4. Gently scrub hands as if washing them again until dryer quits.
5. Repeat Steps 3 and 4 if hands are still not dry.

There you have it.  Your hands should be dry by the end of Step 4, but some machines aren't as effective.

Hope this post has changed your perspective on life,
Dan M. Harris

π and milk

One day I was bored and I wanted to know the 999,982nd digit of Pi, which turned out to be 2.  I found this awesome site via Google that gives you the first 1,000,001 digits of this famous mathematical constant.  Anyway, there's been some significant water leakage at least twice on my dorm's first floor (Walther 1N, the one I'm on) since I moved in.  The first was caused by a broken urinal, the second by a broken water fountain.  Fortunately, neither instance ended up in my room.

My sister just got a new kitten and she decided to name her Olivia.  Guess her birthday wish came true, it just took a few months.  I haven't met her (the kitten) personally, but she's pretty cute judging by the pictures I've received.  I can't upload any pictures just yet... perhaps later.  For those of you who don't know, my sister already owns a hedgehog (named Schnitzal) and a website (named Laura's Sketches).  She's the artist in the family, I am not.

There are about a million squirrels here on campus where I am right now.  How they got there, I don't know.  What they're up to, I'm not sure.  But they're always running around outside no matter how cold it gets.  They'll probably be around during the winter too.  Nothing seems to faze them...

In the meantime, college tends to get a bit more predictable and routine, with each passing day lazier than the last.  Who knows what lies ahead?

--Movie Review Time--
I recently saw Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest again.  It was definitely action-packed, proving once again that Disney isn't afraid to make movies rated higher than PG.  But let me just say this... the first one is better.  In the sequel the jokes were too corny and predictable, and it totally lacked any real kind of resolution (which to me is a bad thing).  Also, the plot was too complicated for its target audience and Will Turner's relationship with Jack was never very stable (one moment he wants Jack dead, the next he's willing to sail to the ends of the earth to save him?).  3 out of 4 stars.

September 10th, 2006

This is something I wrote today while I was really bored and clearly had nothing better to do (besides homework). It's altogether too random, and shows some concern for my sanity. Feel free to comment on any errors in accuracy you might (and will) find throughout. I'm putting this up on the internet because I'm expressing my freedom of speech, but without using any swears. For some reason I use the words "government," "eggs," "giant," "elves," and "weather" more often than others. It must be my media input at work or something. Also, for no apparent reason, I begin my writing with the transition "Secondly."

So, without further ado, I present the Tales of Randomness:

Secondly, Advil can protect you against headaches and other herbal essences. My therapist told me that Godzilla would strike soon, but I didn’t think she meant that his beautiful bean footage would really give away Bush’s secret. Perhaps if the news reporters weren’t so stereotypical we could all just get along. If the government didn’t want the secret to be given away, then I think they should have just kept their jiffy pop on hold. How else are you going to explain those high-rising tire inflations? Arnold Schwartzenegger? I don’t think so. And another thing: how come every time I try to open the window on my new jeep convertible, there’s no sibilance to back it up. Have the giant elves just taken the Fortress of Solitude for a very veracious cycle of death. I just don’t know anymore.

On almost every baseball field there can be found a tiny grain of sand that is a different color than any other grain of sand there. I think it’s a little strange that the criminal justice department hasn’t looked into this forensic piece of evidence. Is it possible that they were too blinded by the happy Tickle-me Elmo of science to give a worry? Next up, how your children can avoid taking drugs off the street given by your neighborhood dentist.

How about that weather balloon sighting last night? Was that exciting or what? I didn’t realize how emotional a drop of water could be until a looked it up online. It turns out that the secret to a longer life is not staying healthy but actually just taking some time to consider how long life really is. I recently reflected on this topic myself.

If the government wants fried eggs on its pizza, then it better get started with the possum hunt. At least that is what my grandfather told me. While working with kryptonite in your underground lab, always remember that it is important to introduce the specimen to the solvent before you wash your hands and eat a month-old bologna sandwich. Several months from now, the chicken will be well worth the egg as you have trouble keeping up with your swim class studies. Furthermore, isn’t it time that somebody did something about the giant green roaches found outside the living room wall? I feel that as an American, I should devote at lest eighty hours a day to watching television.

The weather report for tomorrow doesn’t look too good. Apparently, igloos the size of hail are going to wipe out half of the anchovies prescribed as edible in a matter of minutes. Also, Joe Lieberman has some explaining to do about the tax cut on taxes. It is ridiculous how taxes can be cut but the jaws of life are only good on cars. If you ask me, cars should be made out of stronger material than just metal. What about aluminum or steel?

In further news, most of the American embassy admits that they don’t know anything about weapons of mass destruction and that they probably made the whole idea of atomic missiles up too. "Hiroshima is just as lovely as it always was," states executive senior bomb correspondent Leslie Carmichael. To back up the facts, let’s take a look at the undermining power of Albert Einstein, after whom the element Einsteinium got its name. Einstein’s theory of relativity states that an object in motion will always stay in motion, and there is just no stopping it. So Jupiter, as well as Earth, is doomed to revolve around the sun’s axis for always and eternity. But looking on the bright side of the moon, the sun can always be seen. Joining forces with the dark side could lead to certain death, since you’d probably freeze due to warm temperatures.

More and more and more "more"s are being used in newsprint today, according to recent discovers made by the world’s top newspaper editors. Yes, it seems that the economy is doing great due to the fact that we have more of every resource imaginable. Every since fossil fuels were discovered on the moon, which complies with the more recent discovery that the moon is made out of parts of the Earth and not out of cheese as originally assumed, the gas pumps have been filled to the brim at a rate of 80 gallons per minute, and that’s for each individual gas pump, ever since gas pumps were constructed to be 20 feet tall. However car manufacturers are still complaining about the number of cars they have sold in the past few years. Due to the abundance of gasoline in the world nowadays, no one seems to bother driving anymore. They prefer fresh air and walks on the beach. (Which is also a common interest of singles on the internet, apparently.)

Have you ever looked in the mirror and wondered, "Gee, I bet eggs and bacon would taste really good this morning"? Often when people concern themselves with breakfast, they miss out on the little details in life. For example, while eating breakfast or even while looking at yourself in the mirror, you could be realizing that each state has exactly two senators or that no two snowflakes are identical. These supernatural phenomena and more could be sprinkling your imagination if you concentrate hard enough and yet still not accidentally give yourself a whopping headache.

The miniature elf fairies don’t seem to give up when it comes to trying to convince those around you that you are not to be trusted in this world. Conspiracies about this kind of thing are all over the internet. Also, can you really prove that the world is round? Of course you can. NASA has spent billions of dollars proving stuff like this. And do not try to tell me that the moon landing was staged. Of course it was staged. NASA planned out everything and Neil Armstrong practiced his lines for hours before they finally got there (by which I mean the moon). However, the point is they really did land on the moon; it wasn’t some back lot in Colorado or wherever.

Here is the ultimate assignment toward becoming a lifelong economic naturalist.  Write several versions, and you'll be hooked on economics forever!!

In 500 words or less, use cost-benefit analysis to explain some pattern of events or behavior you have observed in your own evironment.

Do this five or six times and I'm sure you'll have done enough economics work to last you a lifetime.

Remember these basic economic principles: the Scarcity Principle (No-Free-Lunch, not even on Sundays), the Cost-Benefit Principle, and the Incentive Principle.

Hey everyone.  So I'm in college now and I decided to create a whole website entirely about me.  It's my only means of escape from all the homework that's piling up.  I've already got a general ".com" domain, but so far all I put on it is "It's coming..."  One day I might add more to the site, but for now "I am Dan" will have to wait.

Going A.P.E. today!

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

Hey there. Dan here. Just took today my AP GoPo Exam this morning. Hope all went well. I felt I did a lot better than I had thought I would do beforehand. In any case it felt great getting home before noon started. So why do I write this journal entry? Because it hasn't been updated since, like, March!!

They say that "April showers bring May flowers," and they must be right. The lilacs in our backyard have already bloomed. Too bad they only last like two weeks!  Deal or No Deal is apparently the hot new game show right now, according to "most" of my friends. Max is constantly, and possibly even consistently,  asking me to play his home-made version. I win every time! That's what I love about that game: you always go home with more than nothing. (I mean some bubblegum machines still only cost you a penny.) But I digress.

Oh boy, almost graduations!

Salut,

Wiz-dumb teeth

Hello there. Been a while. I just got my wisdom teeth removed last Monday, and my mouth is still a little swollen. But at least I can eat solid foods again. Anywho, I thought I'd switch things up this time 'round.
I've decided to just throw you right into the middle of the story of the Hunchback of Notre Dame:

O.K. So Pierre Gringoire leaves the theives to meet up with his old teacher Claude Frollo, who has the keys to Notre Dame and Esmeralda's cell. There's a large angry mod outside the cathedral (you know with torches and all). Then Pierre and Frollo come to rescue Esmeralda and they bring her to a small boat. The three row away (in the Seine maybe?). During all this time Frollo hides his identity from Esmeralda. When they arrived at their destination they get out of the boat, but Pierre Gringoire is pushed into the water by someone. Esmeralda is very weak and surrenders herself to her surroundings. Meanwhile, Claude says nothing and "induces" the weak gypsy.

Anyway, that's what I picked up from reading my French text of the story (Chapter 20: L'enlèvement).

Wow. Haven't updated my lvjrnl in a while. It's 9:55, Feb'uary 14, 2006. (I know it already sez that but I just thought I'd repeat the day 'n time like those people who leave messages on your answering machine and can't get past the fact that most machines tell ya that anyway.) Anyway, today is also St. Valentine's Day. And what a Valentine's Day it was.. er, is. First hour, fire drill; scond hour, lecture; third, math (nufsed); fourth, video (yay); fifth, 'nother lecture; and sixth, graph printin'. Romance? None.

So, PDR #2 is due Friday. Still can't get that dang hovercraft to work. That motor sucks the juice out of a 9V faster than... (insert your own analogy). Tomorrow is the French feild trip to the zoo! Should be fun. I'll feel like I'm back in grade school or something. Well, whatever.

This is DMH, signing off.
